A centrifugal governor is a specific type of governor with a feedback system that controls the speed of an engine by regulating the flow of fuel or working fluid, so as to maintain a near-constant speed. It uses the principle of proportional control.
As the engine speed increases, the weights fly apart with the centrifugal force against the spring tension to actuate fuel injection valve to reduce the amount of fuel delivered and hence decreases the engine speed. .A mechanical governor uses flyweights to create a force based off of crankshaft speed which is balanced by the force of the governor spring. The top engine speed is varied by increasing the spring force to run faster or decreasing the force to run slower. It allows the engine to run at the speed you select, without any effect of changing the load.
